Tracked delivery anywhere in the United States, free on every order with no minimum. Candle kits and ear discs arrive in 5 to 7 business days and the otoscope and the camera in 10 to 14, after one to two days of processing.

Change of mind is not a legal right in the United States, so the 15 days we give you from delivery is our own policy rather than a statutory return, and the goods have to come back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. You cover the cost of returning it unless the item is faulty.

If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you, and the implied warranties that arise under your state's law are unaffected, return postage included. Those guarantees cannot be excluded.

High intensity LED at roughly 18.5 lumens at its most effective. Bulb and batteries are both replaceable.

Reusable speculum tips in a range of sizes, from infant to adult.

Stainless steel and ABS in silver and black, about 13cm long, in a hard case measuring roughly 21 by 11 by 3cm.

It is an inspection instrument for home use. It does not diagnose anything and it does not replace an examination by a clinician.

Someone else has to hold it. You cannot see into your own ear.

Fiber Optic Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope Kit

A fibre optic otoscope is a hand held instrument with a bright light and a magnifying lens, used to look into an ear canal. This one is stainless steel and ABS, about 13cm long, and comes in a hard case with a set of reusable speculum tips.

Fiber Optic Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope Kit

The optics are the part worth paying for: a three times optical glass lens with a scratch resistant coating, and an LED running at roughly 18.5 lumens at its most effective. That is enough to see the canal wall and the eardrum clearly in an ordinary room.

Fiber Optic Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope Kit

It is for looking. It does not diagnose anything, nothing you see through it replaces an examination by a clinician, and it is not a wax removal tool.

Fiber Optic Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope Kit

Fit the tip that suits the ear, pull the outer ear gently up and back, and rest the tip just inside the opening. Never push, and stop at once if it is uncomfortable.

Fiber Optic Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope Kit

Both the bulb and the batteries can be replaced, and the tips wash in warm soapy water. People also keep one for close work generally: a hearing aid port, debris in tubing, a serial number that has worn away.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Change of mind is not a legal right in the United States, so the 15 days we give you from delivery is our own policy rather than a statutory return, and the goods have to come back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Goods sold in the United States carry implied warranties of merchantability and fitness under your state's adoption of the Uniform Commercial Code, and nothing here waives them: they must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and do what we said they would. If they do not, you are entitled to a repair, a replacement or a refund, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss. For a major failure the choice between a refund and a replacement is yours, not ours, and we pay the return postage on anything faulty, damaged or not as described. A change-of-mind return within our own 15 day window is at your cost. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fibre optic otoscope?

A hand held instrument with a light and a magnifying lens that lets someone look into the ear canal.

What magnification does it give?

Three times, through an optical glass lens with a scratch resistant coating.

How bright is the light?

Around 18.5 lumens at its most effective, from a high intensity LED.

What is in the box?

The otoscope, a set of reusable speculum ear tips in a range of sizes, and the case.

What size is it?

The instrument is about 13cm long. The case is roughly 21 by 11 by 3cm and the whole kit weighs about 222g.

What batteries does it take?

Three AAA batteries, which are not included.

Can the bulb be replaced?

Yes. Both the bulb and the batteries are replaceable.

What is it made of?

Stainless steel and ABS, in silver and black.

Do the tips fit children?

The set includes tips in several sizes, from infant through to adult.

Can I clean the tips?

Yes. They are reusable. Wash them in warm soapy water, dry them fully, and do not put them in a dishwasher or an autoclave.

Is this a medical device?

It is an inspection instrument sold for home use. It does not diagnose anything, and nothing you see through it replaces an examination by a clinician.

Can I use it to look at my own ear?

No. You cannot see into your own ear canal with it. Someone else has to hold it.

How far in should it go?

Only just inside the opening. Never push it, and stop at once if it is uncomfortable.

Can I remove wax with it?

No. It is for looking, not for clearing. Nothing should be pushed into the canal.

Can it be used for the nose and throat?

The speculum and light are also used for a quick look at a nostril or the back of the throat, which is why it is sold as an ENT kit.

Does it connect to a phone or a computer?

No. This is an optical instrument that you look through. The USB camera pen is the listing that connects to a device.

What else can it be used for?

People use them for close work: checking a hearing aid port, looking for debris in tubing, or reading a worn serial number.

Is a case included?

Yes, a hard case that holds the instrument and the tips.

It is covered by our 15 day returns window and by the manufacturer against faults.

Buying Guide

What this is

A fibre optic otoscope: a hand held instrument with a bright LED and a magnifying lens, used to look into an ear canal. Ours is stainless steel and ABS, about 13cm long, in silver and black, and it comes in a hard case with a set of reusable speculum tips.

The optics are the part worth paying attention to. The lens is optical glass at three times magnification with a scratch resistant coating, and the LED runs at roughly 18.5 lumens at its most effective. That is enough light to see the canal wall and the eardrum clearly in an ordinary room.

What it is for, and what it is not for

It is for LOOKING. Someone else holds it and looks into your ear; you cannot use one on yourself, because you cannot see round the corner.

It does not diagnose anything, and nothing you see through it replaces an examination by a clinician. If an ear hurts, is discharging, is blocked, or hearing has changed, that is a reason to book an appointment rather than a reason to buy an instrument.

It is also not a wax removal tool. Nothing goes into the canal.

Using it

Put the speculum tip on that suits the ear you are looking into: the set runs from infant sizes up to adult. Pull the outer ear gently up and back to straighten the canal. Rest the tip just inside the opening. Do not push, and stop at once if it is uncomfortable.

Looking after it

Three AAA batteries, which are not included, and both the bulb and the batteries can be replaced when they go. Wash the tips in warm soapy water and dry them fully; they are reusable, but they should not go in a dishwasher or an autoclave.

The other things people use them for

The speculum and the light also give a quick look at a nostril or the back of the throat, which is why it is sold as an ENT kit. Outside that, people keep one for close work: checking a hearing aid port, looking for debris in tubing, reading a serial number that has worn away.
